Bowies alter ego Ziggy Stardust is known for his extravagant glam style in the early 1970-ies, characterized by colorful and imaginative outfits – just like nudibranchs.

David Bowie is praised both for his music and for his eccentric, androgyn style, which he continued through the 70-ies and into the 1980-ies. In many people's eyes he's one of the greatest fahion icons of all times.


When a collegue remarked that an image of a nudibranch reminded him of a Dvid Bowie outfit, Tracy Dendy started searching the internet.

– I started to explore the connection from there and I could not stop finding exact matches for each of the Bowie outfits, she says to Bored Panda.


As the images of David Bowir and the nudibranchs started tp fill up her hard drive, she got the idea to start a blog called Bowiebranchia.

She has collected well over a hunder spectacular comparisons og David Bowie and nudibranchs from all over the world.


Dendy used software to calculate the color distance in the images, and according to one of the blog post reach an astonishing 94%.

It's not only the color that matches – in many cases you can also recognize the patterrns in the corny outfits.


Not all of the comparisons are equally good, but sometimes the similarity is so great that it's impossible not to smile.

Who would have though that Ziggy Stardust had something in common with nudibranchs? Their taste in outfits is certainly like two drops of water!


The blog doesn't state anything about it, but the images have not been manipulated in any wat, as far as we can tell.
